5 Tips on Preventing Vaginal Infections Naturally

Vaginal Infections, also known as bacterial vaginosis (BV), are one of the most common gynaecological diseases. It is an inflammation of the vagina that creates discharge, odor, irritation, or itching. It can’t threaten one’s life but it can influence one’s quality of life greatly. Thus, it’s very important for a female to know some tips on preventing such a condition.

As we all known, the vagina serves an important role in women’s reproductive area. It can create its own environment and maintains a balance among the normal bacteria found there. Some vaginal infections are transmitted through sexual contact, but others like yeast infections are probably not.

1. Wash your genital area gently
It’s suggested to wash your genital area with a very mild soap and warm water. Try to use a clean towel to dry yourself. You can also try drying it with a blow dryer set on cool. 2. Take some oral probiotics
You can also take probiotics by mouth to prevent this infection, either as capsules or in yogurt. You can eat one serving of yogurt (about 150 grams) on a daily basis if you are prone to BV. Make sure to choose a yogurt with this information on the label.

3. Try to wear only white, 100% cotton underwear

Try to wear only white, 100% cotton underwear because white underwear avoids irritants that may be in different dyes and cotton allows your genital area to stay cool and dry. Do not wear nylon, acetate and any synthetic fibers or thong underwear.

4. Practice good habits with toileting
Use white, soft toilet tissue. Remember always to wipe from the front to the back to minimize the risk of infection from bowel bacteria after using the toilet.

5. Avoid irritating products
Avoid chemical irritants in deodorized tampons. Do not use douches or feminine hygiene products. Regular bathing is usually adequate to cleanse the vagina.
