Can Cervicitis Cause Infertility or Cancer?

Cervicitis is inflammation of the cervix, the lower and narrow end of the uterus that opens into the vagina. Cervicitis is common. It may be caused by a number of factors including sexually transmitted infection, chemical or physical irritations, and allergies.

As it's possible to have cervicitis and not experience any signs or symptoms, cervicitis is always found in gynecological examinations. When a woman is diagnosed with cervicitis, the most possible question she concerns is that if the disease can cause infertility.

The answer to the question is 'yes', especially for those who have severe cervicitis.

When cervicitis occurs, cervix secretes more discharge with large amount of while blood cells. This changes the P.h of the vagina and kills semen. Also because of the thick discharge, it is more difficult for semen to swim into the uterine to then meet the egg in fallopian tube.

Apart from this factor, cervicitis can cause infertility by affecting other organs. Cervicitis can cause endometritis, PID, tubal blockage, hydrosalpinx and even urinary diseases. All of these above gynegological conditions can be the cause of infertility.

Even cervicitis is not a cause of cancer, it is more likely to develop cancer for cervicitis patients than women who don't have cervicitis. In China, only 0.39% of women who have no cervicitis get cervicitis cancer, while the percentage can be up to 2.05% for those with cervicitis. An explain of this data is, it is more likely for women with cervicitis to get HPV which is the most possible cause of cervix cancer.
