Genital Tuberculosis And Pelvic Inflammation

Genital tuberculosis refers to genital inflammation caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis, also known as tuberculous pelvic inflammation. It occurs mostly in women of childbearing age between 20 and 40 years old.

Can genital tuberculosis infect others?

As you know, the pelvic inflammation is a sexual transmitted disease, while the tuberculous pelvic inflammation features mycobacterium tuberculosis infection of the lungs. As a result of puberty genital development, the blood supply is rich, tuberculosis bacteria through blood line spread to the oviduct and other places of the body.

Sometimes intestinal and peritoneal tuberculosis may also spread directly to the internal genitalia. While other primary infections are caused by inhalation of tuberculosis bacilli through close contact with active tuberculosis patients.

Clinical manifestations of genital tuberculosis is analogous to those of pelvic inflammation, usually include:

1. Menstrual disorder: The early manifestation is menorrhagia and the late manifestation is infrequent menstruation or amenorrhea.

2. Lower abdominal pain: It is usually caused by pelvic inflammation and adhesion, and aggravated by menstrual abdominal pain.

3. General symptoms: During the active phase of the disease, common symptoms of tuberculosis include fever, night sweats, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, and sometimes only menstrual fever.

4. Infertility: Like with pelvic inflammation, it leads to tubal adhesion and blockage. In this case, oviduct stiffness, restricted peristalsis and loss of its transport function can cause infertility. Genital tuberculosis is often one of the main causes of primary infertility.
