Beware of Some Infections on the Beach
In the hot summer, the beach is the most popular place for people because it is not only cool but also fun. However, when having fun with your family, you also need to avoid some infections that maybe bring more dangers than sharks do.
First, as a "flesh-eating bacteria", Vibrio vulnificus is a naturally occurring bacterium that lives in warm saltwater and infects humans through the consumption of undercooked shellfish and skin wounds. Four infections have been reported in Texas so far this year, along with 13 in Florida, six in Maryland and 10 in Mississippi. And it multiplies in warmer water temperatures and tends to reach peak levels in midsummer. Therefore, the higher bacteria count coincides with the height of beach season. This adds to the public's fear of the bacteria. After all, no one wants to be infected by this terrible bacterium while on vacation.
Second, enteric bacteria have been found in the water, throughout Miami's beaches this summer, along with other beaches in the United States, after transported by storm water and sewage run-off, the beaches become contaminated with fecal pollution, known as enterococci. The bacteria contaminate the intestinal tracts of humans and animals. In Miami's Crandon Park, officials are weighing the possibility of contamination as a result of bird travel in the area. When infected by enteric bacteria, children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are easy to get gastroenteritis. It occurs in a variety of forms that can have one or more of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, stomachache, diarrhea, headache or fever. Other minor illnesses associated with swimming include ear, eye, nose and throat infections.
Third, you also need to pay attention to some transmitted diseases. Take chlamydia and PID for example, as the sexual transmitted diseases, they also can be transmitted by indirect contact, such as the public benches, towels, or ever the sea water. But you may feel ok after your beach vacation because the symptoms are not obvious at the beginning. And the followings are abnormal discharge that may has an odor, itching or burning around your genital or penis, pain when urination or having sex etc. which may make your life and work in trouble.
Therefore, after the beach vacation, it is necessary for you to do a series of related examinations. Once infected, you have to follow your doctor's instruction and do treatments. As most people know, most Chinese herbal medicines are effective to cure some infected diseases, such as fuyan pill for chlamydia and PID infected by females and Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory pill for chlamydia infected by males.
