Lena Dunham's Story with Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disease that affects over 176 million females in the world, and one in ten is in America. The disease can affect all kinds of women no matter what their social background is, and yet there are no clear explanations into the disease.

The endometriosis has brought great sufferings for women whether they are ordinary person or celebrity, thus it is urgent for females to acquire some knowledge about the disease. To start with, endometriosis is a disease caused by the abnormal endometrium which is the lining of the uterus growing outside of the uterus. And the body could not shed the tissue during period menstruation, and the tissue will cause inflammation and irritation to the body. The process will lead serial consequences, such as painful period, fatigue, and so on. It is widely acknowledged that the disease has great impact on the females daily life, and Lena Dunham is a case in point

Lena Dunham is an American actress, writer, producer, directer, and she is best known as the creator, writer and star of the HBO series Girls (2012-present), for which she has received numerous Emmy award nominations, and two Golden Globe awards. Dunham's devotion on Girls also make her become the first woman to be given the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing.

She is a fabulous woman winning so many awards and those honors do not make her avoid the suffering caused by endometriosis. In her essay she says she has to fake a happy face in front of the public but has to take off the makeup when she is alone. She has to bear the pain, fatigue and some other symptoms, and we can also see from her saying that she is desperate to get support from others. ‘’I want to be real, to get support, to be seen, but I also want to be much more than a collection of health bulletins.’’

One more thing about her endometriosis is that we can see from her embarks on her endometriosis treatment. She feels like she has reclaimed her body after the treatment, and she continues to help those women who have the same problem. From her story, we may conclude that one should not take his or her health for granted, and we should lay emphasis on endometriosis, and if you are diagnosed with the disease, it is high time you should take action.
