How to Treat Cervicitis at Home without Using Medications?

Cervicitis is inflammation of the cervix -- the lower end of the uterus that opens into the vagina. It’s a common disease in women which may be caused by a number of possible factors, including infections, allergies, and chemical or physical irritations. If left untreated, it may cause infertility problem or affect the newborn baby if you are already pregnant. Thus, to treat it timely becomes of great importance. Fortunately, there are several steps you can follow to treat cervicitis at home which gets rid of medications.

To treat cervicitis timely, one needs to be ware of the symptoms of the disease at first. In some women, cervicitis produces no symptoms; you may not realize it until you find yourself having problem getting pregnant. However, if present, symptoms of cervicitis  may include abnormal vaginal discharge, spotting between menstrual periods or after sexual intercourse, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, etc. Once those symptoms appear, you should make an appointment with your doctor and find the causes timely.

After being diagnosed, you can take some treatment as soon as possible to avoid the deterioration of the disease. Antibiotics are the most common treatment on cervicitis. However, antibiotics will cause drug resistance that means it may relieve the symptoms in certain time but may occur recurrently if patients stop taking it. Thus, herbal medicine like Fuyan Pill is a good option compared with antibiotics, because it is made from Chinese herbs without any side effects and drug resistance.

Treating Cervicitis at Home

1. Drink tea made with sage and rosemary
According to some researches, sage and rosemary may help reduce the symptoms of cervicitis. As both sage and rosemary contain some compounds and antioxidants that help fight infection, it’s suggested to drink two cups of sage or rosemary tea daily for women with cervicitis.

2. Avoid potential irritants
Once being diagnosed of cervicitis, it is important to avoid potential irritants that may cause additional irritation or inflammation to your vagina or cervix. Try to wear 100% cotton underwear, and try to use menstrual pads instead of tampons.

3. Abstain from sexual activity
If your cervicitis is infectious, you need to avoid spreading the bacteria or virus; even if your cervicitis is non-infectious, you need to avoid sex because it could further irritate your cervix, accelerating your symptoms.

4. Use vitamin E oil
If your cervicitis is caused by genital herpes, try using vitamin E oil. Saturate a cotton ball with the oil, then apply to the affected area for 15 minutes every three hours on the first day; for the next two days, apply three times daily.

5. Try tea tree oil
As tea tree oil has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, it may be beneficial for cases of cervicitis caused by bacteria. Try to apply a drop of tea tree oil to the affected area two to four times a day.
