Can Hysterosalpingography Be Performed With Ureaplasma Urealyticum Positive Results?
Ureaplasma urealyticum(UU) is a common pathogen primarily transmitted through sexual contact but can also be spread through indirect contact.

When the body is infected with UU, symptoms such as urethritis, cervicitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease may occur, affecting the reproductive system. For women, in particular, UU infection can lead to salpingitis and adhesions, thereby impacting fertility.

Hysterosalpingography(HSG) involves injecting a contrast agent into the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes and then observing the flow of the contrast agent under X-ray to determine if the fallopian tubes are patent and regular in shape.

This examination helps doctors understand the internal condition of the fallopian tubes, providing essential information for diagnosing and treating infertility and fallopian tube diseases.

When patients test positive for UU, they may wonder if they can undergo HSG. Is it possible to perform HSG with a positive UU?

This depends on the severity of the infection and the patient's overall health condition:

1. Mild Infection: Doctors may recommend antibiotic treatment to clear the infection for patients with asymptomatic or mild UU infection before performing HSG. This approach can reduce the risk of spreading the infection and ensure the safety of the examination.

2. Severe Infection: If the patient shows significant symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, or abnormal discharge, it is advisable to postpone HSG. Priority should be given to treating the infection first, and the examination can be considered once the condition stabilizes.

3. Individualized Assessment: Each patient's situation is different, and the doctor should evaluate whether HSG can be performed based on the specific circumstances. To develop the most appropriate examination and treatment plan, the doctor will consider the patient's symptoms, infection severity, and other health factors.

In conclusion, whether patients with UU positive results can undergo HSG needs to be comprehensively judged based on specific circumstances. Generally speaking, doctors recommend that patients undergo anti-infective treatment and wait until UU turns negative before performing HSG to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

If UU is detected, there is no need to be overly anxious. Currently, the treatment for UU infection mainly involves antibiotic therapy.

Doctors will select sensitive antibiotics for treatment based on the antibiotic sensitivity test results. If antibiotic treatment is ineffective, patients can also use traditional Chinese medicine like Fuyan Pill. Generally, with standardized treatment, UU infection can be cured.

During treatment, patients need to pay attention to personal hygiene, keep the vulva clean, and avoid sexual intercourse. It is also essential to take medication on time per the doctor's instructions and undergo regular check-ups to ensure the infection is thoroughly cleared.

If HSG is to be performed, patients can prepare as follows:

First, choose an appropriate time for the examination, generally within 3-7 days after menstrual bleeding ends. Second, inform the doctor in advance about any allergies and medical history so that the doctor can take appropriate measures.

Moreover, avoid sexual intercourse for three days before the examination and empty the bladder on the day of the examination.

After HSG, patients may experience some mild discomfort, such as lower abdominal distension and slight vaginal bleeding. These symptoms usually resolve independently within a few days and are not a cause for concern. However, if there is increased abdominal pain, fever, or increased vaginal bleeding, medical attention should be sought promptly.

It is important to note that each individual's situation is different, and the specific treatment plan and examination time should be selected based on the individual's actual condition under the guidance of a doctor.

If you have any questions about UU infection or HSG, you should promptly consult your doctor for more professional advice and guidance.
